For me the pictures tell it all - why I love field engineering (city or rural doesn't matter) - piece and quiet, fresh air, and some really cool "helpers" watching or in some cases following you.

I was laid off in Albuquerque, NM with another contract company in September 2008.  After a hospitalization in Denver, I arrived home the middle of October and started looking for another

contract position.  I had talked with Alex Fay occasionally over the last three years but we were never able to connect me with a position. 

Out of the blue about November 10th, Alex called me for a position on the west coast near my home.  There was no definite date, location or pay information but I told him I was interested.  Alex then asked if I would be interested in a position in Elko, Nevada.  That made my day, week, month and year!  Housing in Elko is at a premium due to a lot of growth.  I have friends I met in Oregon on my first contracting job after I retired in 2004. They live in Elko but are working in Ogden, Utah.  I called them and they are letting me live at their house for the cost of utilities which meant that I could actually take the job in Elko.  One of the reasons the company I am contracted to decided to accept me was I did not have any housing issue! The people I work for in Elko could not be nicer and they have told me they want me to stay until I retire again........I am willing!  They invite me to all the company events and treat me like I am a part of their family.

Also, I just want to say again and perhaps a little more clearly, I really appreciate the way Donovan worked on this project as well as the last one he did for me. He was diligent about solving problems and communicating with me on both of these projects, something I don't get typically get from the contract agencies. In fact, it was one of his questions/concerns of the field conditions that he identified in the field that sparked my investigation into the issue that identified the current issue with this project that if had not been identified now could have cost the site developer and our company significant time and money. Having been identified now means that we have to modify the project but while the field conditions are favorable and prior to the developer placing their conduit and handhole. I would appreciate it if my remarks of appreciation for Donovan's great work could be passed on to his superiors at Mountain.

A majority of recruiters find your name and resume on careerbuilder and/or Monster.com. They contact you about job. When that job doesn't work out, they lose your information and you never hear from them again. That is the difference with TIM LAWSON and Mountain LTD. They are personal and aggressive. By coincidence Mr. LAWSON was able to contact me on the last day of my last contract in Fresno, California. From that point on he made an effort to reach out to me and maintain contact every day. Mr. LAWSON discussed with me the pros and cons of each available position. The days when he wasn't able to talk to me, someone else in the Mountain LTD office (Gregg Klatsky) would make the effort to talk with me. Sometimes those efforts occurred on Saturdays. I started work with Mountain, Ltd. In early 1987. At that stage the company had an office staff of 4 (including Joe and Sandy Hosmer) and a small 2 room office on the Old Port area of Portland. In November 1987, I left the country with the plan of immigrating permanently and remaining working for Mountain, Ltd. Finally with the sponsorship of Mountain, Ltd., I came back full time in September 1988. I have worked here ever since.

In my time, I have seen the company grow from a small firm with less than 30 employees, through good times and hard, and through changes of ownership to what it is today.

In the beginning, every body knew every body else, and we all did our best to help each other where needed - a typical close-knit small company. With the company being the size it is today, obviously it is not possible to know every body, but those I still deal with still have pretty much the same friendliness and try their best to take care of both the clients and the employees. They do achieve significant success in those endeavors.

That is why I still work here.
