 | MOUNTAIN, LTD.™ Moves Their “Base Camp” to a New Business Campus With a Meaningful Mountain View
April 19, 2004---The last thirteen years at Lower Falls Landing, in Yarmouth, Maine was a gorgeous harbor side setting for those years of evolution of MOUNTAIN, LTD. The location nicely accommodated our growth and it served our burgeoning company very well. However, we found ourselves somewhat disjointed in a half dozen different suites, on two separate floors. Rather than being caught in a rut of ‘business as usual’, we decided to keep our new energy flowing. Our lease was up and a fresh new location fit nicely into our expansion plans. This was a prudent economic move, but also well designed and specific for our company, to provide three vibrant work areas. We now have one large open area, already proving to be most productive for our Operations Team; a separate area for our Finance and Accounting Team; and a creative office area for our management. We all now reside on the top floor with common set-aside areas for document storage, employee training, a conference area, plus a new candidate interviewing and testing space.
In the year 2000, October Corporation (a non-profit charitable organization), purchased this 3,000-acre facility, known now as Pineland Farms in the rolling hills of New Gloucester, Maine. The facility had been owned by the State of Maine and had fallen into disrepair when services were discontinued. With both great foresight and resources, this foundation renovated the buildings and grounds to the very highest standards of quality. For well over a year this renovation was one of the largest ongoing construction projects in the state. Today, prime office space is leased to private and publicly held Maine businesses while at the same time providing excellent facilities to educational, research, and nonprofit organizations.
The theme of the Pineland Farms facility is a mixed use of natural and agricultural assets. In addition to being a premier business location it also includes a manicured horse farm, with an indoor show arena, a beef research farm, a dairy farm and a farm that raises sheep. There are 17.5 kilometers of groomed cross-country ski and hiking trails; an on-campus YMCA, with basketball court, bowling alleys, swimming pool, complete exercise and training facilities. Additionally, there are outdoor tennis courts, a day care facility, a great cafeteria, and a one-acre perennial garden of Maine flowers and shrubs. Even a small fishing pond is stocked with trout three times a year.
Our offices enjoy high ceilings with many huge windows looking out upon rolling pastures edged with white fences, woods, and gardens. The brick office buildings are sprinkled over a corner of the campus with architecture reminiscent of a traditional Ivy League College. The building we chose for MOUNTAIN, LTD. has an added draw: a view of Mount Washington, the inspiration for the original MOUNTAIN, LTD. logo. It is actually, 75 miles northwest of us, in the Presidential Mountain Range of New Hampshire, but on a clear day, there she sits. Needless to say, this is a great place for our teams to work and create which offers us all a good balance of true Maine aesthetics and professional motivation.
