Employee Spotlight – Jay Shantler

This month’s Employee Spotlight is shining on Jay Shantler!

Jay has worked as a Field Engineer at MOUNTAIN, LTD. for 5 years. He started his nearly 40-year career in telecom collecting coins from payphones – working his way up the ranks as a customer service representative, drafter, field engineer and senior engineer. He’s held many different engineering titles throughout the years, including Inspector, Planner, Inside Plant and Outside Plant Engineer.

Jay says he was often considered a one stop shop. He would plan and budget items, field them for both ISP and OSP, bid them out, and inspect them during the construction phase. He tells us he’s most proud of designing 10 party lines on open wire. Now, he works to design fiber to the home (FTTH).

Regional Operations VP Melissa Mendez says: “Jay has been doing a tremendous job for us (not only every day) but specifically on our Lincoln County project. He is very knowledgeable with Avista pole standards and also has the best field notes I have ever seen.” We feel very lucky that Jay is a part of this team!

Jay appreciates that MOUNTAIN, LTD. lets him manage his work and family time. Outside of work, Jay enjoys spending time with his grandkids, wake surfing, camping, and riding the mountain trails and sand dunes!
