Employee Spotlight – Tony Gatrell

We are so excited to recognize Tony Gatrell with this month’s Employee Spotlight!  Tony became a MOUNTAINeer nearly 3 years ago, bringing more than 30 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. Throughout his career at MOUNTAIN, he has been instrumental in implementing many large projects across the country. Tony has a reputation for “getting it right the first time”, and consistently earns praise from our clients and his supervisors.

Tony started his career at GTE, which later became Verizon, and ultimately Frontier. While at Frontier, he worked many positions — starting in the warehouse, then as a Construction Tech, I&M Tech, OSP Senior Engineer, Local I&M Manager, and Manager for OSP Engineering and Construction. He left Frontier in 2016 to become Channell Commercial’s National Account Manager. After a short period of time at Channell, he returned to a Manager/Project Manager position at a telecom company in Kentucky.

When Tony first joined MOUNTAIN as a Desktop Engineer, he was working on implementing DSL internet in rural areas. As the industry evolved, he was able to adapt to support new and exciting developments in the Pacific Northwest. This included new fiber developments, Metro-E, road moves, and day-to-day support. Tony has been a leader in this area ever since, providing training for new employees, Quality Control, work allocation, and Engineering tech support.

Q & A:

What’s your favorite part about working at MOUNTAIN, LTD.?

I have really enjoyed my time here at MOUNTAIN, LTD. I have worked at a few large companies and this company by far is the best place I have ever worked at. Everyone is very professional, nice, and supportive which means a lot to me at this point in my career. You just do not see those qualities these days in a large company. I look forward to the opportunities here at MOUNTAIN, LTD. in the years ahead.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I like hunting, fishing, cooking, and smoking meat. I used to be very active in sports — I have coached my kids’ bass fishing, youth baseball, and youth football teams. I also enjoy art, music, woodworking, and leather craft.
