Joule Healthcare is seeking an experienced Surgery Center- Nurse Manager to lead the team at a leading health system in upstate New York.

Position Title: Nurse ManagerDepartment:    
Department: Surgery Center
Supervises:    ASC Rep, Building Tech, Endo Tech, OR Asst, RN –Endo, RN-OR, RN-SDSU/PACU, Surgical Business Coord, Surgical Charge RN, Surgical Tech
Education:    Minimum:  Graduate from an accredited Registered Professional Nurse Program.  Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or related field, or demonstrated equivalent competencies.  
Preferred Master's Degree
Certifications:    Current NYS license to practice as a Professional Registered Nurse. BLS/ACLS/PALS  required through the RQI system during clinical orientation. CNOR Certification preferred. ANCC Nurse Executive Certification preferred.
Experience:    Minimum:  History of progressive leadership development in an ambulatory surgery center (ASC). Required are strong management skills, a proven record of success with JCAHO/AAAHC and Medicare Certification. 
Preferred:  Previous experience in a circulator role in both the OR and in the Endoscopy environment. 
Other:    Minimum:  Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a complex, multi-entity health system.  Ability to facilitate project management, work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities and enhance the spirit of teamwork through effective role modeling.  Familiarity with regulatory requirements. Excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication (written and oral), analytical, and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with the public in a professional and courteous manner. Computer literacy required with word processing, spreadsheets, power point .
Preferred:  Experience with Microsoft Office products including  word, excel and power point.

Population Specific
Requirements:    The Nurse Manager/Site Administrator must demonstrate the knowledge and skills  necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served within his/her assigned area of responsibility.  The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and process the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age specific needs.     
Exposure Control
Classification:    Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens is reasonably anticipated. Required tasks involve a potential contact with blood, body fluids, tissues.     
Site Administrator Responsibility 
Summary:    The Ambulatory Surgery Manager/Site Administrator has major responsibility for the implementation of the mission, vision, plans and standards of the organization and nursing/clinical practice within this assigned area of responsibility. The manager is accountable for the environment in which clinical nursing is practiced. He/she must allocate available resources to promote efficient, effective and compassionate nursing care delivery. Emphasis on the facilitation of an atmosphere of interactive management and development of collegial relationships among surgeons, nursing and other members of the healthcare team is a must. The Nurse Manager will also engage in the following activities: Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care;  Provides guidance and supervision of personnel accountable to this position; Coordinates nursing services with the services of other healthcare disciplines; Assumes responsibility for staffing and scheduling personnel appropriate to the care requirements of patients served; and Oversees the development and implementation of performance improvement initiatives utilizing evidence based research to benchmark and support best practice standards. The manager is also responsible to oversee the coordination of facility services to include but not limited to materials management, environmental services, clinical engineering, medical waste removal, medical gas supply monitoring facilities/maintenance, telecommunications, informational services. Monitoring and enforcement of State and Federal Administrative and Clinical Regulations also expected.

Professional Practice    Ensures that the nursing care delivered is grounded in the principles of relationship based care and reflects a patient / family centered focus. Creates the expectation through role modeling that professional nursing practice means working in partnership with colleagues within nursing, other disciplines, and the patient / family to achieve the best possible outcome. Demonstrates broad based knowledge of nursing in general as well as knowledge specific to the chosen area of practice.  Is responsible for managing the education and orientation of staff.  Maintains employees competencies in areas specific to their roles. Applies nursing practice knowledge in daily interaction with patients, families and other members of the healthcare team and holds staff accountable for the same.  Preferred member of AORN and SGNA.
Clinical Quality Management     Establishes clinical indicators and measures the quality and effectiveness of nursing care delivered in the area of responsibility. Acts to improve results and achieve nursing clinical excellence. Anticipates quality or safety issues and takes action to mitigate. Assures the reporting of adverse and near miss events and investigates circumstances contributing to the event. Develops and maintains systems for survey readiness.
Innovation/Problem Solving    Utilizes nursing research, nursing literature and evidenced based information to find innovative solutions to achieve the best patient outcomes and enhance the patient / family experience. Fosters staff nurse engagement and creativity by providing feedback, encouragement and recognition for innovation.  Serves as a role model and change agent to inspire transformative nursing care delivery
Collaboration     Creates and mentors the Nurse Leaders to support a positive performance oriented unit / department through open and consistent communication with staff. Teaches and coaches staff regarding expectations for patient / family centered care that promotes healing and satisfaction. Promotes a standardized approach to hand off communication to ensure patient safety. Facilitates care coordination through use of various tools including documentation, nurse provider communication and “bed side” reports
Resource Utilization    .Analyzes workflow / work processes to ensure effective efficient high quality nursing care delivery. Collaborates in the design and improvement of nursing systems; and identifies the resources required to ensure that interventions are safe, effective, delivered on time and are culturally sensitive. Assures that staffing and scheduling decisions consider appropriate ratios, acuity and intensity of patient care and the skill level of the nurse assigned.  Collaborates with the clinical leaders to resolve resource issues.
