Special Feature – A Look Back at MTN Marketing

As we move into the holiday season and the end of 2019, we want to spend the rest of the year celebrating all of the great things that make MOUNTAIN a dynamic and innovative place to work. 2019 has been all about celebrating 40 years of MOUNTAIN, LTD., looking back on our roots and looking towards our future.

In the spirit of paying homage to our history, we wanted to take a trip down memory lane with some of the old advertisements and marketing materials from MTN’s history that we display around headquarters. When new people come into the office, whether it is for an interview or a client meeting, we always highlight some of the materials from MOUNTAIN past including the old MOUNTAIN Echoes Newsletter (that we brought back this year), calendars, job advertisements, and other marketing materials.

We are proud of our rich heritage and our ability to recognize how time changes the industry. We must remain adaptable to the changes within technology, culture, and innovation of telecommunications in order to remain competitive, allowing us to reach new clients and candidates. One of the ways we do that is through our website, social media, and marketing materials.

As we wrap up 40 years at MTN, it humbles us to think about all of the fantastic people who have come through and called themselves MOUNTAINeers, from the days when we were just looking for lineman and traditional telecom jobs to the ever-expanding career-portal we are creating to find drafters, OSP/ISP engineers, project managers, and more.

Come and enjoy a short tour of MOUNTAIN history!

This past year we relaunched our old newsletter MOUNTAIN Echoes. At the start of the year, it was distributed to all internal staff as a PDF/flat piece of marketing material that reflected the articles and features we were posting online as a way to get more people involved through a more analog means. In September, we broadened the approach of our newsletter to our entire database of clients and candidates. Today, over 1,000 people receive MOUNTAIN Echoes each month as a way to keep up with events, special projects, and special news alerts. We are proud of this new generation of Echoes, which was inspired by the materials hanging on the wall.

Historically, local newspaper ads and classifieds were the primary way that job-seekers found out what opportunities were in their area. MTN took advantage of this method of advertising with catchy newspaper ads. With taglines like “If retirement is not in your bag” and “Take a break from retirement” – a lot of the sentiment in earlier MTN print ads was about finding skilled workers who had been in the industry and knew what they were doing.

As expected, times have changed, and the way in which we recruit, 30 years later, looks very different. Last year, we launched our new website with our innovative job search feature that updates all of our jobs every hour. www.mountainltd.com/jobs is home to the job search, but you can also find us on popular search engines such as Monster, CareerBuilder, Indeed, and LinkedIn.

Back in those days, we didn’t have to worry about SEO, analytics, and what our Google rank was, but times have changed, and we have created a webspace that is informative and helpful for clients and employees alike. We continue to improve and expand our online spaces to better suit the needs of our customers and the industry at-large.

MTN loves swag! We are continuously coming up with new items to put our logo and contact information on to give away for special staff events, client meetings, and expos or conferences that we attend. While looking through our bags of swag, we found this old “mileage book” that we used to send to folks in the field to keep track of their travels when submitting for reimbursement. Our sales team is always coming back from shows and conferences with new ideas for swag. We now have Moleskine books, USB chargers, headphones, custom decks of cards, and so much more.

One of our favorite things to send out to clients, employees, and staff is our calendar. Each year we custom design a new calendar for everyone to keep on their walls, just as we do in our offices.

In the last 2 years, we have put a lot of effort into our marketing through both the design work we do as well as outreach (including social media, writing blog posts, and adding features to our website). All of these changes will continue to develop and evolve in 2020, so be sure to like, follow, and subscribe to our various channels!
